Our day out

Created by Ian one year ago

Sometimes a day out can pass uneventfully, but our day in London was quite different. My extended family were on a trip to see Lion King, however we thought that this would not work for my son Andrew who has severe learning difficulties.

We had arranged to stop at Mary's house. My wife went off to the theatre and Mary drove Andrew and me out to what if recollection serves me right was Queen's Park. Andrew was in a pushchair at the time, so Mary and I sat down on a park bench and a good heart to heart conversation. There was another lady on the bench, who after some time (maybe bored of our conversation) got up and left. A few moments later, Mary said, "Do you know who that was? It was Annie Lennox." "Was it I said", thinking if she had mentioned that before I would have not wasted my time talking to Mary and instead could have been shmoozing with a celebrity. We made our way on to the childrens play area where Andrew was able to happily crawl about in the sandpit whilst we sat down for another chat. Suddenly, a young girl started kicking Andrew violently in the face and there seemed to be blood everywhere. I was in a state of shock and issued a few sharp words to the young girl. Thank God Mary was there. She cleaned Andrew up as I stood there like a gibbering idiot. I remember worrying how I would explain this to my wife. We spent most of the rest of the day in hospital. Thankfully Andrew was ok and Mary's prescence gave me cover from any responsibility. If I could have another minute on that park bench, I would take it over any amount of time with Annie Lennox. Love you Mary. Zig xxx
